The Masion House

3.17.07

Investigators for The Mansion House were Akoni, Monica, and Robert, carrying full gear. Roughly 300 pictures were snapped. Five hours of audio and video footage was captured and in for review.

VAPOR investigated this two story mansion with a hipped roof and a square penthouse cupola turned apartment building, in hopes to aquire answers to questions some of the tenants have. The investigation went very well with the help of Becky and Zoe. Lasting a short five hours, the time went by quite quietly aside from the occasional light anomilie in a snapshot. More details will be posted after carefully reviewing all of the footage.

Back Inn Time Bed & Breakfast Inn

2.17.07

Investigators for Back Inn Time were Akoni, Monica, Robert, and Suzy carrying full gear. Over 500 pictures were snapped. Some awesome audio was captured and roughly six hours of great video footage.

Back Inn Time Bed & Breakfast Inn is a beautiful Victorian style Manor located in the center of downtown Saint Albans. Built back in 1858 by Victor Atwood, this Manor has had only three owners in its entire history. Starting out as a residence, the current owners decided to turn it into a quaint little Bed & breakfast, hosting parties, weddings, and the occasional interested ghost hunter. The Inn is said to have resident ghosts still roaming the halls late at night. Every room has a journal by the bed for each guests to jot down their possible encounters with Lora or one of the others spirits they might have met.

The investigation went very smoothly. We started setting up at eight, and completely set by nine in the evening. The investigation lasted until four in the morning. Breaking down was relitively painless, it took less than an hour. Currently we are reviewing the footage and audio from the investigation, after the reveal is presented to Pauline, Paul and Tim, we will post it for the public.

The Ricker Basin Ghost Town

12.9.06

Investigators for Ricker Basin were Akoni, Tommy, Monica, and Robert carrying digital cameras. Close to 50 pictures were taken for this preliminary investigation.

Found in Washington County, the subsistence farms of Ricker Basin were first settled back in 1783 and consisted of thirteen families, one church and three operational mills. The "ghost town" lies in a basin, up on high elevation between two large brooks - Cotton Brook and Stevenson Brook which end in the Waterbury Reservoir. This pseudo town was dismantled in the late 1960's by the State of Vermont and decided to take the town for eminent domain to build the Waterbury Reservoir project. Only one home remains intact, the Almeron Goodell Place on the Dalley Loop Trail.

It is quite a hike to get to where these farms once stood, but once you get there it is very beautiful with lots to see. Old cemeteries and old foundations where home used to stand, streams, springs and wells are all well placed near most old foundations. It is great to look over the lay of the land and think how things used to be when families were working and playing up in those hills.

Pictures of the A. Goodell farmhouse are in the gallery. More pictures of Ricker Basin Ghost Town will be posted as soon as possible also in the gallery.

*** DISCLAIMER ***

Ricker Basin Ghost Town is not reportedly haunted. VAPOR is researching old towns that are now considered "Ghost Towns of Vermont", in hope to perhaps locate a haunting. We bring you this research as it is interesting to look at Vermonts past.

The Old Lavallee & Ide Building

11.18.06

Investigators for the Old L&I Building were Akoni, Tommy, Monica, Robert, Suzy, Bastian and Josh carrying full gear. Over 200 pictures were snapped. Some good audio was captured and several hours of great video footage.

Lavallee & Ide Company plans to close its Winooski tool manufacturing plant by the end of November. The 69-year-old company lease has run out and the company said it could not find another suitable site in Vermont. The Building has been there for much longer however, and its full history is still being sought out. Possible massive floods may have played a part, being right on the river.

Stories from employees through the decades are indeed interesting to say the least. Whispers in your ear, to full conversations just down the hall and no one around to have had them. Apparitions walking, at times even running through corridors and halls on the second and third floor. Some employees even claimed to have been 'touched' by the spirits that reside in the old building. With the Plethora of eyewitness testimony and a good long history behind the building, VAPOR decided to set up an investigation and try to capture evidence to help support these stories from the soon to be former employees.

On November 18, 2006, before the doors did close for good I was granted permission to investigate the premises with my team of paranormal peers for the evening. We drove up to the emptied out building at around 8:00pm and set up all the equipment in purposely designated areas, as to where the paranormal activity seemed to be mostly concentrated. The seven hour investigation commenced at around 9:00pm, with the first sweep of the superstructure taking place fifteen minutes later.

Suzy and I roamed through the entire building as quiet as a mouse in one hour’s time to collect as much information and ask the alleged spirits of the old mill building questions that we thought needed answers. “Why are you still here?”, “What are your names?”, and “Can you show yourselves to us?” In hopes to capture an E.V.P. (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) on our digital voice recorder although we did not hear any audible voices ourselves. Roughly twenty minutes into the first sweep, the three of us were in the basement snapping pictures off asking the routine questions; when an extremely loud buzzer sounded off for a good five seconds. Not knowing this was set to ring every two hours, twice, fifteen minutes apart…the three of us froze right in place and looked at each other in intense confusion. Immediately realizing that it was nothing more than a break buzzer for the former employees, we continued on the investigation accordingly.

Days later, after carefully reviewing the footage from camera 2 (one of the audible IR cameras located on the second floor), I caught something that does not correlate with the how the evening actually went down. Camera 2 caught the same first break buzzer just as we heard it, five seconds after it stopped buzzing something else was clearly heard. The first time reviewing this, after the five seconds of silence, there was a noise, which sounded to me like a mass stampede of people through out the building. The loud rumble faded in quickly, lasted for a nice twelve seconds, and then faded away almost as quick.

I showed this footage to all the investigators that were present that evening and none of us have an explanation for what it could have been. Everyone has been placed in the building and accounted for. Doors locked behind us, no one could enter unannounced.

The seven hour investigation ran very smoothly, with a couple personal experiences from a few agents. A more detailed account for the evenings events will be posted at a later date. Some photos of the investigation can be found in the gallery section of the VAPOR website.

Swanton Village Residential Home

10.21.06

Investigators for the private residence were Akoni, Tommy, Monica, Robert, Bastian and Josh carrying full gear. 150 pictures were snapped. Some good audio was captured and several hours of great video footage.

The house was quiet and seems pretty peaceful. During the investigation not much happened, aside the few odd feelings from a couple of agents. Since the investigation date, we have analyzed the footage/audio and have found nothing but dust orbs and a really creaky staircase. Initially thought, we found an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) of a "laugh" in the master bedroom upstairs, but have decided to not present it as evidence, as it sounds more like accidental rubbing of the mic.

As far as Swanton Village being a paranormal hotspot, it has since revealed to me a few more houses that may have paranormal activity, but further investigation is paramount. There has not been a documented haunting in Swanton as of yet, which in turn would not make it a paranormal "hotspot", but if there is a haunting VAPOR will find it.

Gold Brook Bridge - a.k.a. "Emily's Bridge"

10.01.06

Investigators for Emily's Bridge were Akoni, Tommy, Monica and Robert, carrying full gear. Over 200 pictures were snapped. It will be very hard to hear any EVP's with the brook running underneath the bridge loudly, but we will listen to it carefully through a filter.

Some good photos came from this investigation, but none that would be considered paranormal. Beautiful stills of the bridge in general, but aside from that not much turned up on film, digital camera, digital recordings or video.

This was our second visit to this location and after running into company on both occasions, we have come to realize that "Emily's Bridge" is a popular hang out for kids driving around with nothing to do. We luckily got an hour and ten minutes of uninterrupted investigations. With all that surrounds this beautiful bridge, Emily is the one thing so very hard to prove. The fact that no elder native of the Stowe area has ever heard of "Emily's Story" when they were children growing up, until recently in the last decade or so. The fact that there is no documetation that Emily has ever exsited such as certifercates, (birth + death), or pictures of the girl. With the abundance of kids coming around, climbing on the bridge's rafters with nothing better to do, each one with an elaborate story to tell of their last visit. Emily (a child herself) was mostlikely a tale hatched up by a car load of highschool kids one night to entertain themselves along with many generations of kids to come.

Barlow Street Community Center

9.24.06

Old Barlow Street School Background:

First we would like to thank Paranormal Investigators of New England for the opportunity to investigate this location. Also thanks to VAPOR associate, Amanda for introducing us. Amanda and Monica were given the opportunity to represent VAPOR on an investigation of the Barlow Street School. Word on the street is that a former janitor still walks the wings of the beautiful old building. The brick building constructed in 1898, was used to school first grade through fourth grade until 1969 when it was abandoned by the city. Ironically between 1979 and 1989 the community used the building to put on a "haunted house" show around Halloween due to its creepy atmosphere. Around the late 90’s it was renovated as a community / recreation center.

Allegedly a janitor died (during the years the building was a school) of a heart attack in the girls bathroom, which was located in the basement. All remnants of the basement lavatory have been removed. We have been trying to locate any kind of information or documentation on this janitor... i.e. dates, name, etc. There is also mention of an errant window that doesn’t seem to want to stay closed located on the second floor. Any further information found on the janitor will be posted at a later time, we hope.

Summary Of The Investigation Written Up By Monica:

We met that evening at the Barlow Street Community Center, and after some introductions we proceeded to enter the building. Jeffrey Stewart who heads P.I.N.E. had already acquired a master key to the building and had also notified the local police so that any reports of lights would not warrant a unit to respond. Once inside we started to set up the “gear”. It took anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes to set up monitors, remote video and audio recording devices through out the building. The basement alone had four video cameras going, with a dash of infrared toys to boot, along with a couple of tape recorders in hopes of obtaining an EVP.

After the gear was in place it was lights out! As the first team of four (which included Jeff and Amanda) started their tour in the basement. Either with video camera or voice recorder in hand - sometimes both, everyone got a turn at making contact. There were the obvious questions of “is there someone here?" ...or... "do you want to say something?” in hopes to hear a response once all collected data is analyzed. According to Mr. Stewart, to find something would be no surprise. On his last visit to Barlow there was some EVP's captured. Back at base camp the second team kept an eye on the monitors. There was the occasional dust particle that made its way past the camera always catching my eye. Then it was our turn. As we made our way through for more of the same picture taking and temperature checking. I did not note any temperature anomalies during my tour. We went top to bottom.

Sometime past midnight we decided to vacate the building. Leaving all recording devices on in hopes that maybe our absence might trigger something’s curiosity. After about 40 minutes we returned for a second tour of duty. It was decided that teams of two would explore the building. We tried several means of communicating with the unknown, ranging from the pleasant to the more colorful in hopes of a response. The only interesting event that I witnessed happened on the first floor as Jim from Granite State Paranormal and I were making our last run through the building. We were in one of the larger rooms that is still being used for the kids. It is filled with toys, tables and chairs. I was five feet from the doorway leading to a back hall, Jim was asking for a sign when the light came on in a bathroom located in the back hall. The bathrooms are equipped with a motion detector in an attempt to save electricity I suppose. We thought it odd and decided to continue our tour and return later. We made our way upstairs and found the mysterious window. Guess what, it was open about a quarter of an inch. After snapping some pictures I closed it tight, took some more pictures and we moved on, back to check on that light. Standing about five or six feet I asked for a sign and two seconds later that light was back on. We let the light go out again, then Jim tried to set off the motion detector. He managed to walk into the bathroom and nothing. Finally it turned on and upon closer inspection it looked like the detector was somewhat damaged, but the “eye” itself was intact.

Time to pack up. After making myself useful, I decided to go up and check on the window. Still closed! I was hoping to see it open again, maybe next time. We recorded close to six hours of audio and video with multiple devices. Now here comes the fun part, watching and listening to it all. We will update this information once everything has been analyzed.

Pictures will be posted as soon as they have been carefully reviewed.
